The story of Bedminster Community Choir

Bedminster Community Choir was established by the local acta Community
Theatre company in 2011 as part of their ‘Get Together’ programme – with the aim of bringing people together to sing, socialise and have fun.

At the conclusion of the acta project, the West Street BS3 Neighbourhood Group took over responsibility for the Choir’s management.

We now have over 30 regular members of all ages. We meet at the acta Centre
(BS3 3AY) 18:00 – 19.30pm on Wednesday evenings, taking breaks during holiday times.

Our aim is to bring people together from all different walks of life to sing, make friends and have fun.

We provide a welcoming and safe place for those who may be experiencing social exclusion or those who may just need to see friendly faces.

I love singing and music and learning new songs. The sound is so uplifting. The concentration takes me away from my everyday stresses . I come away feeling happy, relaxed and mellow

Laura

With the range of ages, backgrounds and personalities the group
encompasses, it feels like one big family, which is particularly important for
those who live alone, without relations or close friends nearby.

We always welcome new members, and encourage people to pop along to see what our choir can offer.

  • I love singing and music and learning new songs. The sound is so uplifting. The concentration takes me away from my everyday stresses; I come away feeling happy, relaxed and mellow. This is also to do with the people. I met one of my best friends through choir so I will be forever grateful. We have a laugh and everyone is so caring and welcoming

  • The choir for me is a vote of confidence that helps me to embrace my singing while also having fun.  Sarah brings all our spirits together and without this choir my weeks would be dull. The choir brings me so much enjoyment

  • I just sing and sing and sing and enjoy! The choir is my rock. For 3 years I struggled with Alzheimer’s but always knew that for a couple of hours a week I could go to choir where I could relax with my singing and find friends
